Two big innings cost Tigers in rubber match vs A's 1 Year ago Karma: 0
It was a tale of two bad innings. Rick Porcello struggled today, but his third inning was especially bad as he gave up four runs. He ended the day having allowed 5 ER in 5.1 IP. He picked up the loss, which was his 8th on the season.

Detroit pulled within one heading into the bottom of the 8th, but Fu Te Ni and Ryan Perry combined to give up four runs to make it 9-4 A's. Detroit did not answer in the 9th and that was all she wrote.

Miguel Cabrera swung a big stick today as he hit his 25th HR of the season on a 2-run shot. He had three hits and upped his BA to .338.

Once again, the Tigers hitters made a subpar starter look like an ace as Brett Tomki went 6.1 innings, allowed just one run, and struck out 8(!).

Luckily for the Tigers, the White Sox lost and their Central Division lead remains at 2.5 games. However, the Twins won again and are now just 4.5 back. They have won three games in a row.

Detroit will continue their west coast swing with a three game set against the LA Angels of Anaheim. Justin Verlander gets the ball tomorrow.
