Weekend Links - Mangino Resigns, World Cup Draws, & Let Shannon Dunk
Written by Rob Rogacki

There's a full slate of college football conference championships, NBA action (for those of you with League Pass), and hockey (Wings vs. Devils at 7:00 pm) today. So bust out the potato chips, kick back, and start your day with a few links from D4L.

  • Hockey Independent discusses whether Keith Ballard deserves to be suspended for his slash to the head of teammate Tomas Vokoun on Monday. I've backed off my previous stance, but I still think Ballard needs to see a stiff suspension from the NHL.
  • Like most guys, I have no idea what women really mean when they say something. Thankfully, Guyism has come up with a helpful guide to the inner-workings of the female mind. Kind of like What Women Want, but less gay.
Marisa Miller
I have no idea what she's thinking.
  • Now, two giants in the college football coaching world won't be back next year. Though nobody is accusing Charlie Weis of being a good coach, the dude was a load. Mark Mangingo, the only guy that makes Weis look small, resigned Thursday from Kansas.
Mark Mangino
He always knew how to pick a winner.
  • ESPN announced the World Cup draws earlier today, and the U.S. National Team's first game will be against England. The other two Group C teams are Slovenia and Algeria. Overall, this is a very winnable group for the U.S., with a weaker-than-usual England squad as the main competition. Failing to get out of the group stage would be a major disappointment, especially after their good showing at last summer's Confederations Cup.
  • The guys at Rumors & Rants have gotten in contact with a lawyer to provide some legitimate legal analysis of Tiger Woods' current situation. The stuff they came up with is pretty interesting, unless your name is Tiger Woods.
  • The LA Lakers have begun a marketing campaign to get former MSU standout Shannon Brown into the dunk contest. Check out LetShannonDunk and support the movement. (Sorry for the crappy audio, but this dunk was too good to pass up.)
  • Over at The Baseline, Shoals looks at the trending topic of whether women will soon (or ever) play in the NBA. I have to agree with Dirk Nowitzki (quoted in the article) on this: the skill level is not the issue. I would strongly argue that the women in the WNBA are more fundamentally sound than men in the NBA. The reason why it wouldn't work is the difference in size, speed, and athleticism between the sexes. Great article though, make sure to check it out.
Rob's Highlight of the Day
We're back to your regular schedule of daily highlights with Jonas Jerebko's nifty pass to Ben Wallace for the easy dunk in last night's 105-96 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.
