Super Bowl Weekend: it's finally here. Enjoy it while it lasts, because when the bill for that new HDTV comes you're gonna be broke.
- The Demar Dorsey saga continues in Ann Arbor, and Mgoblog has it's take on the matter. I'd like to see what people have to say to Rich Rod if this kid becomes a star, because they're sure piling on the dude right now. The last line of Mgoblog's article sums up my sentiments perfectly.
When did Demar Dorsey become Kwame Kilpatrick in the eyes of the Detroit Free Press?
- Over at Motown Wings, Chris looks at what happens when the Wings get healthy over the course of the next week or two. Specifically, he makes his predictions on who stays and who's looking for a new job. I like his reasoning, but I still think Meech goes before Lebda, and I don't know if Holland is ready to give up on Ville Leino.
- The NBA announced the field for the 3-point contest yesterday. The two I care about are rookie sharpshooter Stephen Curry and some guy named Chauncey Billups. Daily dose of chills down the spine below.
- Jason Beck takes a look at what would be an interesting development for the Tigers' training camp. Former slugger Andres "The Big Cat" Galarraga may be coming to Lakeland to mentor Miguel Cabrera. Galarraga, a career .288 hitter with 399 HR and 1425 RBI, is probably the best person the Tigers could have reached out to for this position. Hopefully this can put Miggy Smalls among Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez as one of the very best hitters in the game, because he absolutely has the talent to do so. - Brendan Burke, son of Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke, was killed in a car accident on Friday afternoon. A sad story in itself, Brendan's death is even more significant given what he represented. John Buccigross wrote one of the most touching articles I have ever read about Brendan in December. If there has ever been a piece I have linked to that is a must-read, this is it.
- If Tim Tebow felt bad about an offensive lineman bashing him, I wonder how David Garrard feels after his coach said he was not an elite quarterback. It really doesn't matter if Jack Del Rio is right in this situation (hint: he is). As Garrard's coach, you've basically got to be willing to say that you wouldn't take Peyton Manning over him (hint: we all would).
- The experts have spoken, and the New Orleans Saints will win on Sunday. Don't doubt a gorilla's intuition.
- Speaking of the big game, Gunaxin has a list of some of the crazier bets that Vegas currently has running. My predictions: the Hurricane Katrina over/under is going to be WAY over, and I'll take Pinball Wizard on a flyer as The Who's opener. I'm not completely sold on that one, but Baba O'Riley is 10,000% their closer, no question.
- Now that Justin Verlander is set4lyfe, how does your salary compare? Check out ESPN's Salary Crunch if you want to hate your job even more.
- As a Wings fan, you can appreciate the investigative journalism done by the geniuses at Down Goes Brown. Posts like this are why DGB is a must read. [via A2Y]
- Not sure if this is legit or not, but it's funny. Looks like Baltimore is getting some SNOOOOOOOWWWW this weekend. [via @Jose3030]
Rob's Highlight of the Day
It's nice to see the NBA's brightest stars humbled every once in a while. J.J. Hickson of the Cavaliers made Dwyane Wade look awfully human on Thursday, posterizing him on one play and denying Wade on the defensive end later in the game.
