Another busy Monday for me, especially since I convinced myself that watching ESPN's 12 hours of post-Super Bowl coverage was more productive than doing the work I need to finish. Anyway, not much going on in the sports world (outside of New Orleans at least), so we'll spice things up today. More highlights, and some of my favorite commercials from last night's marketing extravaganza.
- Mardi Gras starts early this year. The New Orleans Saints played a hell of a football game last night and beat the Indianapolis Colts to win Super Bowl XLIV. Drew Brees took a machete to the Colts defense after the first quarter, completing a ridiculous 82% of his passes to finish with 288 yards and 2 TDs. I'd say something about The Who here, but my girlfriend was too interested in the Puppy Bowl Halftime Show to change the channel. Warning: Dr. Mantis Toboggan advises to NOT watch this video while high.
Rob's Favorite Super Bowl Commercials
- OHMYGODTIMTEBOWISMAKINGANANTI-ABORTIONCOMM.. Hold on, folks. Deadspin has video of Timmah's commercial, and it was nowhere near the controversy people made it out to be. However, did anyone else see the commercial where Mrs. T gets rocked by her son, then gets up like it's nothing? Curious.
- As Bob said yesterday, Doritos was far and away the commercial winner from last night. My favorite one is below, though I thought all of their ads were good.
- Other than Doritos, I thought a lot of companies mailed it in with their ads last night. Emerald Nuts put out an interesting spot, to say the least.
- The only other company that I thought did a good job was Denny's. Some weren't so crazy about the screaming chickens, while others thought they were Chick-Fil-A ads, but I thought they were better than most of the other ads out there.
- Sharapova's Thigh looks at Dante's Inferno, the mandatory novel for senior English-turned-video game that also shelled out the mega bucks for a commercial last night. It wasn't one of my favorite ads, but I'm pretty sure this is the first video game that has ever put up the money for a Super Bowl spot.
Rob's Highlight of the Day
Make sure to check out the Daily-D4L Vision to the right for Tracy Porter's pick six to seal the game for the Saints. My other pick for your viewing pleasure is Derrick Rose's ridiculous alley-oop dunk from Friday's NBA action. Three words for you Derrick: 2011 Dunk Contest. [via Sharapova's Thigh]
