Red Wings win Game 7 vs. Ducks

Written by Bob Biscigliano on .

/SUDDENJUBILIATIONINREGULATION

The final minutes felt a lot like Friday night, up 3-1 until a Ducks goal would make things far too interesting, and butt clenching and stuff. The Ducks wouldn't get the equalizer this time, though, and the Red Wings would perservere in regulation and, in all, an extremely hard-faught seven-game series a lot of people, myself included, thought they weren't going to be apart of.

Quickly, here's how the Wings pulled it off in Game 7:

After Henrik Zetterberg started the scoring early in the first and the Ducks tied things up 12 minutes later, the Wings were shorthanded when Justin Abdelkader broke up a pass in his own zone and then found the five-hole at the other end of a breakaway:

Abdelkader grew up pretty fast.

The second period was scoreless until Valterri Filppula wound up with what was ultimately the game winner on a backhander:

I've already talked about what happened in the third. We wound up celebrating (or sighing in relief).

Jimmy Howard had 31 saves in the game and the new Captain played heroically in the Wings' second consecutive elimination game.

There was a time when I thought No. 22 was not going to happen, but the Red Wings have already turned their 22nd straight playoff appearance into a special one. Four out of the series' seven games went into OT (the 1st time that has ever happened for the Wings) and they won all four of their games by a single goal against a No. 2 seed. Great [nervous] success!

The Red Wings will now take on a fellow Original 6, the No. 1 Chicago Blackhawks, in the Conference Semis, which begins on Wednesday night. Fun and jokes.

Prince Fielder's funniest hit by pitch

Written by Bob Biscigliano on .

I missed this being out of pocket over the weekend -- GameDay doesn't specify when a 'hit by pitch' happens in or around the junk and the batter hilariously hops around the infield grabbing his groin [via WorldofIsaac]:

Try to show me a funnier hit by pitch.

This isn't sports, but this is important: May 26. I'm afraid I just blue myself.

Henrik Zetterberg's game-winning goal in Game 6 vs. Ducks

Written by Bob Biscigliano on .

I was out of pocket, so I couldn't post this after it happened on Friday night to force Game 7, but I had to get it up.

What better time to do that than after Zetterberg scores a couple minutes into Game 7 to give the Red Wings a 1-0 lead? NONE.

Eat your hearts out, Mothers.

Jimmy Howard save vs. Ducks was 'larceny'

Written by Bob Biscigliano on .

With a 1-0 lead in the first period, the Ducks had a pretty good opportunity to tie things up, but then Jimmy Howard flashed some leather.

UPDATE: Howard had 18 saves in the 1st period, but one shot he couldn't possibly see got by him. 1-1.

Red Wings fan shakes her boobs

Written by Bob Biscigliano on .

During a break in the action of Game 4 on Monday night, while the refs and crew were tending to broken plexiglass, a very spirited Red Wings fan decided to grab her breasticles and shake them for all they're worth (lots of $1 bills, one or two would think).

Have a look and in case you miss it the first time, this video has super slow mo:

Thanks to our friends at Busted Coverage and Guyism, linked above, we know this peacocking (peaboobsing?) babe is Alexis Gilroy (or Sixela____ on Twitter). She says she wasn't drunk and her boobs are 100% real. I'm not sure if I'm more weirded out by the fact she was actually deciding to do this sober or that she has the same first name as my 4-month old daughter.

Titus Young gets arrested, then arrested

Written by Matt Rogal on .

During the 2011 NFL Draft, former NFL wide receiver Titus Young felt like Barry Sanders was passing him the torch when he called his name with the 44th overall pick. Titus might have had the right idea, but it definitely wasn’t Barry doing any torch passing. Might Charles Rogers have been passing something instead?

According to the Oakland Press, Titus Young was arrested not once, but twice on Sunday by the Moreno Valley Police Department in Southern California. The first arrest occurred just after midnight when Titus was pulled over for an illegal left turn and arrested for suspicion of drunk driving. He was booked, issued a citation and released.

Titus, not one known for calling it quits, found himself in yet another pickle when he was caught trying to break into impound later that day. He was attempting to steal back his black Ford Mustang. The MVPD arrested Titus again, this time for burglary, and booked him in the same detention center. They did not charge him with stealing from the Ford Family.

Apparently, Titus Young is just as delusional about his abilities as a criminal as his abilities as a football player. It’s too bad he already quit got canned from his day job. Maybe he won’t beat Barry in any record books, but he does have at least one nailed down...

Detroit Lions (Unofficial) Record Book for Time Elapsed Between Arrests

15 Hours- Former WR Titus Young

Folks, you can put this one up there with Wilt’s 100, Gretzy’s career points and DiMaggio’s hitting streak of awe-inspiring records that will never be broken.

22 days- RB Mikel Leshoure

In 2012 Mikel was pulled over for going 92 mph on I-94 and arrested for marijuana possession. After stewing on it for almost a month, he decided the trick was to eat your weed during police traffic stops and landed in the slammer again.

31 days- RB Mikel Leshoure

Mikel helps cement himself on the list after failing to miss his ensuing court date and having a warrant issued for his arrest. He was able to work it out with the court so he didn't face contempt charges, but missing your initial court date after two marijuana arrests is impressive nonetheless. His spot as RB1 all of a sudden looked less cushiony.

54 days- DT Nick Fairley

Arrested April 3rd 2012 for possession of marijuana and May 27th 2012 for DUI, reckless driving, attempted fleeing/eluding and perhaps most gangsta of all, no proof of insurance.

Honorable Mention- Former WR Charles Rogers

Charles was arrested five times between 2008 and 2011, but surprisingly his arrest relapse time had a much larger margin than the fellas listed above.  He does get special brownie points for flare, though. If anyone can make a move on Titus, it’s a man with truly special talent such as Charles.

Red Wings even series with OT win in Game 4

Written by Bob Biscigliano on .

In the most exciting game of the playoffs, the Detroit Red Wings evened their first round series with the Anaheim Ducks by winning a 3-2 stunner in sudden jubilation overtime thanks to a goal by a strange man named Brunner.

Damien Brunner, who was a ghost for most of the game, tapped in a trick-or-treat gimme on the doorstep ("please take one") to send the series back out West all knotted up at 2-2.

Here's video of the goal via NHL.com:

As you can see, Gustav Nyquist's speed created the break and the ensuing scoring opportunity for Brunner. Brunner simply buried it home. And they celebrated again.

Overtime was only possible because of Pavel Datsyuk. Down 2-1, Datsyuk decided he was going to score, skating with a mission into the Ducks' zone and wristing one top shelf. A gatorade bottle banger.

Mmmm.

Game 5 is in Anaheim on Wednesday with the puck dropping at 10pm ET.

Miguel Cabrera's barrel roll seated throw vs. Astros

Written by Bob Biscigliano on .

At the very least, it'll wind up on SportsCenter's Top 10 - maybe even as No. 1. But this web gem may go down in history as one of those plays that saves one of those special things we don't explicitly talk about here at D4L while it's going on:

Yes, he is beginning to throw the ball while he is on his back/ass. Check out the screengrab below:

UPDATE: Verlander lost his no hitter with one out in the 7th inning. This play by Cabrera is still amazing.
